Thinking of upgrading your tuners but worried about drilling mistakes or crooked pegs?

Although small, tuners play a big role in tuning accuracy and player comfort. Here's a clear 6-step guide to help you replace them the right way, whether you're a DIYer or a pro tech.

✅ The 6-Step Method for Installing Tuners:

① Remove old tuners
Use a screwdriver to carefully remove the old tuning machines without damaging the finish.
② Clean and inspect the holes
Check if any screw holes are stripped or cracked. If needed, fill them with toothpicks and glue to reinforce.
③ Dry-fit the new tuners and align
Place the new tuners in position without screws. Use a ruler or spacing tool to check for perfect alignment.
④ Mark new screw holes and drill pilot holes
Mark with pencil and drill small 1.0–1.5mm pilot holes to avoid splitting the headstock wood.
⑤ Lightly install screws, leave some room to adjust
Screw in each tuner about halfway to keep them movable for fine alignment.
⑥ Final check and tighten
Double-check tuner alignment before fully tightening all screws.
